Groundhog Day

Did Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow on Thursday, February 2, 2012?  If you ask the students in Mrs. Snyders' class, they will know the answer.  Phil says, "Six more weeks of winter!"  Punxsutawney Phil, "The Fearless Forecaster," saw his shadow at Gobbler's Knob.  Phil's forecast was broadcast around the world and was recorded in the Congressional Record.

Our classroom came up with an exciting way to celebrate this unique holiday.  The students decorated cupcakes with marshmallows, m & m's, chocolate frosting, and vanilla wafers to resemble groundhogs.  We read the story, Wake Up, Groundhog, as part of our activities.  We visited the web site http://www.punxsutawney.com to see some actual pictures and learn some interesting facts about groundhogs.  The best part of our day was getting to eat the groundhog cupcakes.

Special thanks to Breckyn, Cameron B., Cameron M, Makayla, and Kalleigh for bringing the supplies for this activity.
