Differential Assignments in Literature Class

by Amy Sieperda

My goal for assignments in literature classes, is to reinforce the lesson of the day.  Usually, there is a daily reading assignment and a vocabulary worksheet.  In addition, there may be an extension activity.  They differ in skills needed.  Some use creative or artistic expression, others use language or writing interpretation.  This allows students to "shine" at what they are good at or "stretch" them to work on other skills. Listed below are some examples.

   a) " I Am" Poem            b) Sketch of a "scene"        c) Designing/Writing a postcard

   d) Topic web                e) "Top 10"  events             f) Comic strip

   g) Venn diagram            h) Scrapbook page              i) Create a quiz
