Weekly Expectations
Dear 4th Grade Parents,
Each week, usually on Friday, your child will be taking home his or her envelope of work completed during that week. Please check over the papers to see the progress that was made and how you might help out in an area where extra help is needed. Please sign and have your child return the emptied envelope each Monday so it can be used again. I would appreciate any help that you can provide. Our cooperation and mutual support of your child is essential in his/her growth as a learner.
Here are a few specific ways that you can help each week:
1. Practice the spelling words together. The pretest is usually on Wednesday and the posttest on Friday.
2. Almost every Friday we have a comprehension and vocabulary quiz on the reading story from the basal reader. Your child may take the reading book home to reread the story or tell you about the story. The vocabulary in the notebook can also be taken home. After each unit in the basal (usually about every 5 weeks) we read a literature book for about 2 weeks. A list of our literature books that we will be reading this year are: 1.) Pippi Longstocking
2.) Snow Treasure
3.) Number the Stars
4.) Stone Fox
5.) Misty of Chincoteague
3. We will be taking math time tests every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Speed and accuracy are important. If necessary, get flash cards for practicing-especially multiplication and division. You can also refer to some web sites that I have entered for additional practice.
4. There also will be time tests in Soc. St. These will usually be on Tuesday and Thursday. Have your child show you these maps. Again, you can also refer to some web sites for additional practice.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me by phone or email. Thanks you for your help.
Mrs. Keizer
