I'm the Boss of My Body
November 17, 2011
Stefanie Behrens, the Education Coordinator for the Family Crisis Center of Northwest Iowa, gave a presentation to my class today called "I Am the Boss of My Body". The children watched a short movie which helped them recognize that they are the boss of many things. After a thorough discussion of what it means to be "the boss", the children were challenged to think through a variety of examples in which they can take ownership of their right to keep themselves safe from the threatening behavior of others. Mrs. Behrens taught them to "Say No!", "Get Away", and "Tell A Grown-Up". She gave them Burger King crowns to remind them that they are the boss of their body in many situations. They also each received a coloring book to take home and review the lesson.
