Pen Pals

Since the beginning of the year, the 5th grade students have been corresponding with the Sioux Center 5th graders via pen pal letters. Each Central Lyon 5th grader has at least one pen pal (some of them have two). The students were matched up with each other according to shared interests. Letters are written back and forth on a monthly basis and sent through the AEA van mail. In May, the students will have a chance to meet up with their pen pals and spend a half a day picnicking, visiting, and playing games and other activities. This long-running activity has proven to be a success now and in years to come as the students compete against each other academically and athletically.
