Dan Wardell To Visit Central Lyon

Dan Wardell, popular host of Iowa Public Television, will be visiting our school on Wednesday, November 4, 2009.

Last spring, the second grade students in Mrs. Snyders' and Mrs. Block's classrooms engaged in an ambitious new initiative designed to get kids across the state exercising and reading. One elementary school classroom and one library in each of Iowa's ninety-nine counties was selected to participate in a Healthy Hike competition. The top ten moving/reading counties were treated to a surprise visit from Dan Wardell. At the completion of the competition, participating classrooms took a "Healthy Hike" to their local libraries for a story time and celebration.

It turns out that there was a little money left over from the Healthy Hike adventure last spring, and Dan Wardell has agreed to bring story time to another 25 school districts. Schools were randomly drawn, and our school was chosen! Dan Wardell will put on a story time program for students in Preschool through 6th grade.
