On September 16, 1989, the world
welcomed Steph Bender. Today Steph lives with her parents Barb and
Terry. Also in her family are her siblings Anna, Laura, Bryan, and
Emma. Steph has one pet, her dog Sly.
Steph participates in a variety of activities and organizations at Central Lyon. She has been in band for four years, choir for four years, mock trial for four years, international club for three years, individual speech for one year, large group speech for three years, and swing choir for one year. Steph also serves as the student council vice president and has been a football manager for two years. In church, Steph is a member of the CYO, or the Catholic Youth Organization.
Steph’s class schedule is not an easy one. Her classes include band, choir, calculus, Spanish IV, grammar, government, psychology, and speech. Among Steph’s favorites are the movies Superbad and Pay It Forward, songs from the band The Spill Canvas, the color blue, and the book Angels and Demons. Steph’s favorite food is fettuccine alfredo and her favorite subject is lunch. Her favorite TV shows remain as The OC and House. Steph’s most memorable high school moment was being on the field when Central Lyon won state football during Steph’s junior year, and she also really liked the band/chorus trip to Florida following her sophomore year.
Next year Steph plans to attend Iowa State University. In ten years Steph hopes to have graduated from law school. She would also like to be married with maybe a kid or two. If Steph could spend a day with anyone, she would choose her mom because her mom is Steph’s best friend. To the underclassmen, Steph offers: “Take every breath God gives you for what it’s worth, because life goes faster than you think.”
