Concession Workers!

Have you ever been sitting in the stands at a sporting event and you had instant craving for chocolate? Well, you would usually get up and go to the concessions stands. When you arrive at the concessions stand you have many options to choose from. Some of the food choices include pizza, nachos, hot dogs, candy bars, popcorn and Central Lyon's famous ice cream. There is not just  food but drinks too. Our drinks include pop, water, and Gatorade. Have you ever stopped and wondered how the food got there? Who organized it? Who gets asked to work during the year? Where does the money go at the end of the night?

The concessions stand at Central Lyon is open during almost every home varsity game or meet. Whether it be football, volleyball, wrestling, track, softball, baseball, and basketball. Who works? Well, parents with students involved in instrumental programs from 5th through 12th grade or vocal music grades 6th through 12th and parents of students involved in any sporting activities from 7th through 12th grade are required to work in the concession stand for at least two events during the school year. So it is volunteer work to the max.

All this volunteering doesn't just work on its own somebody has to organize it and determine who can be there. This person is Patty Perett. She is the back bone of the concessions stand. She makes the calls in getting volunteers and she makes sure the food is ready.

Have you ever wondered where the money goes at the end of the night? Well, the money collected actually goes to the students of Central Lyon. The Central Lyon Music Boosters and the Central Lyon Athletic Boosters Club collect the money and it is used to purchase equipment, medals, help with trips, camps, and even supply students with scholarships. At the end of the year the Music Boosters gives two scholarships to two outstanding choir and band students.
