Summer Business Camps
2012
by Denise Snyders
Summer camps are a great way to explore career interests, earn college credit, beef up your resume, and have fun! My oldest daughter attended Business Horizons the summer between her junior and senior year. In addition to having a blast and doing something out of her comfort zone, it sparked an interest in business. She is now pursuing an masters in business degree in addition to her pharmacy degree. Business Horizons camp also provided her a test-run for college dorm living! Here is a list of camps that I would recommend to students who may be interested in business careers or want to get a head-start on testing a career.
Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to attend Business Horizons, a live-in summer program held July 15-19 for students who want to learn about what the future holds for them in the business world. The cost is $275 with a registration deadline of April 1. Business Horizons participants may earn one college credit through participation in the week-long summer program at Central College in Pella, Iowa. The cost is for college credit is $125. Contact Mrs. Snyders or Mrs. Harman for more information.
Current high school sophomores and juniors who aren't quite sure about taking accounting class should do a test drive this summer at the Summer Accounting Institute July 11-15 at USD in Vermillion. Receive one general college credit from USD at no cost.. Please talk to Mrs. Snyders or apply by March 1 if you are interested.
EntrePrep, a one-week residential institute at NCC in Sheldon from August 2-6, is for sophomores and juniors who are interested in marketing, business, and entrepreneurship. This includes a year-long commitment to attend four booster workshops and participate in a 100 hour unpaid internship during the school year. Benefits include 6 college credits and a $500 stipend upon completion. Contact Mrs. Snyders or Mrs. Harman for more information.
