Olympic Finale

by Nancy DeJongh

On March 2 Central Lyon elementary students held their own Winter Olympics as a fun conclusion to their February Reading Month.  Each grade level participated in bobsled races, ice skating, skiing, and hockey.  Students earned the right to participate by turning in reading minute slips for the month.  They also received a small reward each Monday for returning their slips on time.

At the beginning of the month in a kick-off assembly Mr. Ackerman  challenged the teachers to a hockey shot on March 2.  Any teacher that made the shot would win free ice cream cones for their class-the pressure was on!  Five teachers proved they were of Olympic quality and scored-Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Van Veldhuizen, Mrs. Grooters, Mrs. Keizer, and Mr. Snyder. They also won gold medals..  Since all students did a great job of reading during the month Mr. Ackerman awarded ice cream cones to all students-thank you!
