Champions of Reading
Every year, Central Lyon students in grades TK-5 participate in a reading incentive program during the month of February. Our theme this year was "Champions of Reading!" We highlighted the Winter Olympics through this special program which emphasized reading. There were special incentives for the children throughout the month. For example, the kitchen served a "Breakfast of Champions" and the students received a pep talk from Mr. Ackerman to pump them up about reading! Each week, the kids were asked to keep track of the number of minutes that they read outside of school. The reading did not need to be aloud and could include "together reading" with a parent or sibling. Every Monday, the kids returned their paper medals to school that they recorded their minutes on. Mr. Ackerman challenged all of the teachers to shoot a hockey puck into a net for a chance to earn an ice cream cone for every student in their class. On Tuesday, March 2nd, we celebrated by participating in Olympic Games in the elementary gym. The kids were encouraged to dress in athletic wear on Tuesday. Mr. Ackerman thought that everyone did a fantastic job of reading, and he has decided to purchase ice cream for all of the students. Our class will get their ice cream after lunch on Tuesday, March 16th. Thanks, Mr. Ackerman! Click on the small boxes on the pictures to see our second grade students going for the GOLD! Keep on reading!
