We're Back!

October 06, 2011

Second grade students are back and hard at work.  We've put in  seven full weeks of school, and things are going great!  Here is a run down of some of the things we have done so far.  We celebrated three birthdays, took a field trip to Orange City, played a lot of games on the SmartBoard, took pictures of our class outside, and attended two Central Lyon pep rallies.

We had some surprise visitors to our classroom during Homecoming week.  Some dynamic duo dads stopped by in their costumes.  All of the kids enjoyed seeing the angry birds.

Be sure to check out the picture of the lion we created to put on our door during Homecoming week.  We had a lot of fun creating our door decoration using our hands.  Our classroom was awarded 2nd place for our hard work.

Our class is getting a new student on Monday, October 10, 2011. Kalleigh W. previously attended Robert Bennis Elementary School in Brandon Valley, South Dakota.  We are anxious to have a new student in our class.  Please be sure to welcome her when you get a chance.  This brings our total number of students in our class up to sixteen.  We have ten girls and six boys in our room.

The Iowa Tests of Basic Skills are coming up soon.  The tests will be administered during the week of October 17-21.  Please be sure your child is rested and gets a good breakfast during this week. We would love to have some snacks during this week to help break up the day.  If you feel inclined to send a snack during that week, we would truly appreciate it.

We are so fortunate to have a SmartBoard in our classroom.  It is a very interactive teaching tool.  I would encourage you to ask your child about the SmartBoard, or feel free to stop in and ask to see how it works.  One of my favorite features on the SmartBoard is the Random Group Generator.  This feature allows me to group the kids with a push of a button.  I am able to group the kids by their names or by their pictures.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the parents who have purchased items off of our Giving Tree and have donated them to our classroom.  I am truly amazed at how generous parents are. So far, our classroom has been given a new kickball, Bubber, hand sanitizer, address labels,  m & m's, paper towels, chocolate pudding, wiggle eyes, small paper plates, aluminum foil, books, and black plastic bowls.  We are still in need of a few items.  If you did not get a chance to pick an item off of the Giving Tree, there is still time.  Please check out the Giving Tree article under my classroom page.  There is a list of items that we could still use.  Thanks again!
