100 Days Smarter

January 23, 2012

Can you believe that we are already 100 days smarter?  That's right, today was the 100th day of school!  Time flies when you're learning a lot and that means we only have 80 days left of Kindergarten.

We celebrated this special day by doing lots of things the 100 way.  First we each counted our 100 pennies on a 100 chart and then sorted them into 10 towers of 10.

This was a great way to improve our math and fine motor skills.  After that we lined up to see how far we could get in the school if we took 100 steps.  Next we counted and did our exercises by 1's, 5's, and 10's to 100 in the High School Mezzanine and then sat quietly for 100 seconds.

To our surprise, when we returned, our 100 pennies were gone!  They were replaced with a $1.00 bill and a note on each student's desk that read,

"Boys and Girls - What a thrill!  No more pennies, but a dollar bill!  I took your 100 pennies away and left a dollar bill to stay!  Keep counting and saving!  Love, the Penny Fairy"

You can imagine the excitement as the children discovered that not only is there a "Tooth Fairy", but now a "Penny Fairy" as well!  To finish up our fun activities, the children enjoyed their 100 day munchies while having Freeplay.

**In honor of the 100th day, the children will also be working hard the rest of the year to join our "100 Club".  Membership involves being able to count to 100 by 1's, 5's, and 10's.  Each child will hang their blue ribbon on the wall and receive a Bonus Box draw when they have earned their honors.
