The Central Lyon FFA Livestock judging team started the year off with a boom!  The team had many practices to prepare for them for the big competition. In practice, the team judges different classes of animals including, sheep, beef, pigs, and goats. During practice the members judge each class, and then Mr. Rockhill helps and explains what you are looking for in each species. Livestock judging is an event that takes a lot of strategy, Mr. Rockhill always says “mark smart cards.” That means, you go into the contest with a clear head, and not to over think, and just be confident in your decisions.  Livestock Judging has been something that the chapter has done well, and prides itself on.

The Central Lyon FFA Livestock Judging team recently attended the Clay County fair livestock judging competition September 16, 2017. The Central Lyon FFA had two senior teams and one junior teams. Every team ended up placing at the contest. Kolten Bus, Kade Griesse, Jarrett Fastert, and Devin Miller were on the first FFA team and placed 7th overall in the senior division. Kolten Bus placed 3rd as an individual in the senior division. Addison Metzger, Austin Metzger, Haley Borman, and Kaden Huisman were on the second FFA team and placed 8th overall in the senior division. In the junior division, Elizabeth Huyser, Kiah Thiessen, Kiley Metzger, and Mason Bus placed 2nd overall as a team. Many of the individuals also placed individually in the junior division. Elizabeth placed tenth, Kiah placed seventh, and Mason placed third overall. The Central Lyon FFA Livestock judging team was extremely successful their first competition and plan to continue the success.
