All-State Cross Country Honors
Gable races to 6th place!
Gable Sieperda placed 6th in class 2A at the Iowa State Cross Country meet in Fort Dodge with a running time of 16:30. The G-LR/CL freshman's time of 16:26 won the Class 2A district cross country meet on October 23, and earned a ticket to run at the state meet. There were hundreds of athletes (15 teams, 4 classes of boys and girls) and thousands of spectators at the state meet. Of the 130 runners in the boys class 2A field, 14 were freshmen, and Gable was the only freshman in the state to win his district. Gable finished in the top two in every race this season, winning 8 of 11 meets, and was ranked 9th in the state class 2A prior to the race. The top 10 finishers in Saturday's race in each class medaled and received all-state honors.
Central Lyon held a send-off Thursday at school, where Coach Fiedler emphasized that Gable's teammates were a big part of his success. Principal Ackerman challenged spectators to wear Gable's signature red headband to support him Saturday. Congratulations to Gable, his family, and coaches Curt and Lori Fiedler.
