Wrestling Team Places 8th at State
Travis & Gable Place 5th
Central Lyon/George-Little Rock finished 8th in the state as a team. Three wrestlers, Travis,Colby, and Gable, advanced to the individual competition. Travis and Gable placed 5th in the state in 2A.
In the Lions' first team appearance at state since 2008, they lost to #3 Mediapolis 12-64, with Travis and Gable pinning their opponents. The second match resulted in a close loss to #7 New Hampton 36-40, with wins from Colby (pin), Tanner, Zach, Alex (pin), Travis (pin), Ross (pin), and Gable. Highlights of the Regional Dual:
With a last second tie-breaking takedown, Central Lyon qualified for Team State with a 39-36 win over Sergeant Bluff-Luton at the Class 2A Regional Wrestling Duals. Coaches strategized and wrestlers performed with some key wins. Zach's pin began a string of six-point pins and/or forfiets for Alex, Travis, Ross, and Gable. Colby M. entered his match with the teams tied at 36, and he scored a last second takedown in overtime for the 3-1 match and team win. The 2008 wrestling team was the last to qualify for state prior to 2015. The State Dual Team Wresling Meet will he held in Des Moines Wednesday, February 18. In addition to the team, Gable, Travis, and Colby qualified individually and will compete beginning Thursday.
There was a send-off held for the wrestlers on Tuesday. We wish them the best of luck down at state!
