Students Visit U.S. Bank
Central Lyon second grade students took a field trip to U.S. Bank on Thursday, May 21, 2015. The kids were divided into three groups for the tour. Mr. Geerdes, from U.S. Bank, talked to our class about the importance of saving money. He gave the kids several situations where they had to decide if they should save their money or spend it. The kids made some very sound decisions when it came to saving.
Then, we watched as Mrs. Maxwell sorted change for us. The kids were surprised at how quick and accurate the machines at the bank were. Our next stop was the bank vault. The kids were amazed at the size and weight of the vault door. They learned that the vault door weighed about as much as a semi truck and it was on a timer. They also learned what the safety deposit boxes were for. From there, we went to a different area of the bank. Mr. Metzger showed the kids some rare bills that are no longer in circulation. Several students tried to count bills faster than the bank's bill counting machine, but they found out that the machines were much faster. At the end of our tour, the kids were treated to juice and cookies. Each child was given a coloring book to take home. We would like to thank the nice people at U.S. Bank who took time out of their day to give us a tour. We learned a lot while we were there.
