Students attend NWI Conference Art Show
On Thursday, April 28th, 29 Central Lyon Art students attended the Northwest Iowa Conference Art Show. The show was hosted on campus by Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa. The show was open from Thursday, April 21st through the 28th. There was a 30 piece limit placed on each school, and Central Lyon maxed out their entries. There were 5 categories for submission; Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, 3D Sculpture and Digital Art/Mixed Media. Schools were split into 2 sections for the visit day. Section 1 was George-Little Rock, Okoboji, MOC-Floyd Valley, Sheldon, Sibely-Ocheyedan and West Lyon. Section 2 included Central Lyon, Boyden-Hull, Rock Valley, Sioux Center, Trinity Christian, Western Christian and West Sioux.
Thursday's invite included a presentation by Spirit Lake artist Danielle Clouse Gast (her Facebook site can been seen here). She talked with the students about being an artist for a living and recalled her life experiences from college until now. She also brought in two of her pieces as well as a slideshow showing many of the pieces she has completed, both for comission and for pleasure.
The second session had the students out in the gallery viewing the works of all schools involved. Each school was given 6 ballots to vote for their favorite works, as well as 1 teacher ballot for Best In Show.
After a sack lunch, the students gathered in the newly completed Applied Technology Building to watch Worthington native Noah Hoehn perform a musical show.
Lastly, the students all gathered in the gallery to hear the results of the voting before taking down and bringing home their works. Our own Justus Poppinga took home an Honorable Mention in the Digital Art/Mixed Media category.
