Pencils have been sharpened, our classroom smelled of new crayons, and as teachers we waited in anticpation for our kinders to arrive. Every year I look forward to a fresh start, a new batch of kiddos that I get the opportunity to get to know, learn from, and grow with. Week one in kindergarten is always the most exciting, the hardest, and exhausting by the time Friday comes along. This year we worked hard on drawing what we used to call our self portraits. We love to see what skills our kinders already come to school with, that way we can gear our learning the appropriate direction. One thing we check for is how they draw themselves, view themselves, and pay attention to detail. Instead of calling it a self-portrait, we decided to come along side social media and use their lingo to instead call it a "selfie." in order to teach them what a selfie was, we took a classroom selfie together. This was an excellent bonding experience for our kinders and myself. We shared some good laughs and made a great memory!
