Alternative Seating

Alternative seating, task boxes, and a change in curriculum are just a few things that have been updated this school year. As you know, special education can be a tricky thing to navigate. I have been trying to help students to be comfortable and enhance their learning environment with different seating like beanbag chairs, rockers, small couches and with raised table and chairs. This way student can find a place that works best for them to learn. I have a room that is for reading and has sensory items in it when the kids need a break. We uses task boxes to help with functional tasks or just a review of skills that the students have mastered. I have also been changing the curriculum that is presented to each student. We still have to take it slow at times but there is plenty of time for reading and playing games to encourage new skills. 2017-2018 is stacking up to be a great year with students reaching or maintaining goals.
