7th/8th Grade Math Update
As we head into the last weeks of quarter two, I thought I would share an math update.
The 7th graders just finished the last algebra unit on inequalites this week. They have shown a lot of improvement in writing and solving equations and inequalities. They have been building their foundation for much of the math they will use in 8th grade and throughout high school. I am very proud of the gains they have made over the past months. They 7th graders will be working on ratio, proportion, and percent applications to finish out quarter two. This will be an extension of skills learned in 7th grade. Many of these skill will have real life applications.
The 8th graders have been working hard on linear and nonlinear functions. They have also been showing some excellent improvement. Many of these skill will be integral to their 9th grade math class next year. They have been learning how to graph, write, and apply functions to real life situation. They have spent time looking at linear and nonlinear functions using desmos.com, a website that allows students to graph functions online. We will be doing more fun activities using this website in the future. The 8th graders will soon be working on solving systems of equations which will be our greatest challenge of the year. I am looking forward to taking on this challenging topic with them.
