7th/8th Grade Math News

The 7th grade students have just finished up the first three chapters.  They have been learning a lot of new algebra concepts.  They have learned how to write and solve multiple step equations including integers and rational numbers.  They have also been introduced to inequalities.  They have learned how to write, solve, and graph solutions to inequalities. These skills were new and challenging.  I have seen much progress and development in all of the students in 7th grade.  The 7th grade students will be solving problems involving ratios, proportions, and percents to finish out the second quarter.

The 8th grade students have already completed four units.  They have been working on further development of their algebra skills.  These skills include distance in the coordinate plane, square and cube roots, Pythagorean theorem, writing and solving multiple step equations, graphing linear equations in various ways, writing functions from different forms of data using slope and initial value.  These skills are very fundamental in terms of their future high school math courses.  The 8th graders have been and will continue to be challenged in these areas.  I have seen much potential and growth in this group of students as well.  To finish the quarter, they will be learning to solve systems of equations using various strategies.

I look forward to working with all of your students and seeing their continued progress!
