On Tuesday, May 14 three teams from Central Lyon competed in an annual math bee competition at Dordt University in Sioux Center, IA.  There was one fourth grade team whose members included Connor Altman, Caleb Kooiker, Amber Langholt, Noah Johnson, and Egan Pedersen; Mrs. Baker was the supervising teacher.  Two fifth grade teams, supervised by Mr. Jansma, also represented Central Lyon.  Members included:  Molly Konechne, Alayna Popkes, Elliot Funk, Claire Reiter, Jaden Gukeisen, Jason Huyser, Maria Metzger, Berlyn DeWit, Leo Groen and Zach Drenth.

The students had a fun and successful experience.  The fourth grade team earned second place honors in the team division.  Egan Pedersen earned third place overall in the individual competition.  Caleb Kooiker was involved in a tenth place tie with students from other schools.  A couple of fifth graders also earned individual honors.  Molly Konechne and Zach Drenth tied for ninth place.  There were approximately twenty teams competing in each grade level.

Thank you to the parents who were able to come and support these students. Previous and current teachers should take pride in the achievements of these students.  Even though the questions were difficult and lots of deep thinking was needed to problem solve, the excited and enthusiasm of the students were visible throughout the morning.
