We have very talented students at Central Lyon. As a result of their performance at state speech contest on February 4, the improv group of seniors Hope R. and Austin T. plus junior Brady W. have qualified for All-State!  All-State is in Ames on February 18,  when the students receive a medal and will be recognized for being the best of the best.

This season of large group speech began in September with speechies organizing groups and choosing material for contest.  Mrs. Hakeman is the speech coach and has nine groups. These include ensemble, Improv, mime, and radio broadcasting. Speech students are very committed to the program and practice both early mornings and after school. The goal of each group is to perform at a high level at district competition, so they can advance to state competition. The ultimate goal of every group is to perform at the All-State Festival. Speechies always love an audience, so we encourage you to come out and support us at our competitions!

“I have participated in Large Group Speech my entire high school career, and I couldn’t ask for a better experience. I love being able to be with my friends and acting comedic skits. There are so many different options to do, it can range from Mime to Improv to Musical Theater! It can be stressful trying to memorize lines and actions, but in the end it pays off. I have been able to go to State, and I am so glad I had such a fun experience!”
