¡BIENVENIDOS A ESPAÑA!
On March 24, nine students and three adults flew to Spain to start their adventure – well sort of! The students Kaylee F, Trina F, Sydney E, Emily V, Elyse P, Makayla W, Jackie G, Zach S and Trey M with Mrs. Groves, Mrs. Witt and Mrs. Ebel left Sioux Falls at 6:30 AM to start their first leg of their journey. The second leg was longer. What was supposed to be an overnight flight to Barcelona, turned out to be a 2-day trip. Once there, the fun started. We hit the ground full speed in Barcelona with a visit to the Gothic quarter, Sagrada Familia church, las Ramblas, Parc Güell among many other beautiful places. The highlight of the visit to Barcelona was the bike ride. Just ask anyone.
On the bus ride to Madrid, we spent two hours visiting the city of Zaragoza. In Mardrid we visited the Puerta del Sol, the city center. This is one of the busiest places in the city. While there we shopped, visited the Plaza Mayor, watched street performers, walked through the Mercado San Miguel, had tapas and listened to a Tuna group. Tuna groups are university students that sing and play instruments. They dress in Medieval clothing and sing traditional songs. We also learned to dance the flamenco and watched a very interesting performance. Other highlights were a bike ride through Retiro Park and a visit to the Reina Sofía art museum.
Even though it was a struggle to get to Spain, it was well worth it!
