FFA Legislative Symposium

Central Lyon FFA students and advisor Mr. Josh Rockhill traveled to Des Moines on Jan. 28, 2020. The students visited with legislators, exhibited skills learned in the agriculture classroom and learned the importance of citizenship. This was all part of the 35th Annual Iowa FFA Legislative Symposium and FFA Day at the Capitol. FFA members heard from Julie Kennedy, Iowa Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, about the importance of Iowa Agriculture, the importance of talking to legislators about agriculture education, and what the students can do to promote Iowa Agriculture. They also heard remarks from Farm Bureau Federation President Craig Hill about his experiences with FFA and what he got out of the organization. He also told them about the things they will do to impact agriculture for tomorrow. Sophomore FFA Member Raelynn stated: “I think it was really fun and a good experience for us to meet our representative and ask questions. My favorite part was touring the capital building.”

The annual Iowa FFA Legislative Symposium and FFA Day at the Capitol was made possible with support from Iowa Farm Bureau Federation through the Iowa FFA Foundation. We appreciate that Representative Wills, Senator Whiting, and Jill Altringer met with Mr. Rockhill and the students of the Central Lyon FFA.
