Notice to Parents
Tuesday, April 7
Dear Central Lyon Families & Staff,
I am writing today with a few updates.
Meal Pick-up: High School Entrance
Due to construction in the kitchen area, meal pick-up has been moved to the high school entrance (circle drive on 1010 S Greene St). Central Lyon continues to provide free meals to all children/students 18-years of age and younger for grab-and-go service. Students in Doon will continue to receive meals in the public library parking lot, and meals will be delivered to those living outside the city limits of Rock Rapids and Doon (families should call the high school office: (712) 472-2664 to request this service).
Governor Reynolds Orders Parks & Playgrounds Closed
As a result of Governor Reynolds’ decision to expand the emergency disaster proclamation, all school grounds – including playgrounds, track, baseball and softball fields, and green spaces – have been closed to the public. While these measures are increasingly difficult due to the improved weather conditions, please continue to do your part to stop the spread of COVID-19. Individuals who continue to utilize these public spaces will be asked to leave, and law enforcement will be contacted if groups do not adhere to the reminder.
Distance Learning Resources
Thank you to the students and families who have made it a part of their daily routine to engage with their teachers and the Distance Learning Resources made available to all. Teachers are working hard to connect with students and families while maintaining their focus on:
1) student mental health and social/emotional needs,
2) maintaining the health and safety of students, and
3) making DLRs accessible for all students.
Now that we have been learning in this new environment for more than a week, it is important to remember that our goal is to continue to deliver the essential learnings that would have normally been taught if students were still in school. Teachers are available eight (8) hours each day in service to students and families. If you would like to schedule a 15-minute video-conference or phone call to review questions you have regarding the resources you are currently studying, please do not hesitate to contact your teacher or building principal.
Spring Break
Students, families, and staff are reminded that Friday, April 10, and Monday, April 13, is Central Lyon’s Spring Break. Be sure you enjoy the long weekend. Students and staff are not expected to engage with one another these two days, and meals will not be served. Students and families that want to continue their learning are always encouraged to read, write, problem-solve, think creatively, and stay active – but be sure to find time to rest, relax, and recharge too!
Central Lyon teachers and staff would like to send their words of encouragement while students and families continue to engage with distance learning resources from home. We invite you to check out our Facebook page to view a message from the staff of Central Lyon to our Pride of Lions.
