Delta Hydro Water Grant

Central Lyon was recently awarded a grant from Delta to purchase a water dispenser. The grant application was completed by Mrs. Christensen's Health II students Morgan Robinson, Xander Ditsworth, and Sydney Wells, along with Nurse Brenda. The new delta water dispenser is located in the middle school hallway across the hall from Mrs. Ver Beek's room. We had applied for two grants, one for the middle school and one for the high school commons.

Mrs. Christensen hopes to replace more of the older water fountains with the bottle filling stations in the future. We asked Mrs. Christensen what the environmental advantages and health advantages the new dispensers have against the old water fountains; she responded "The emphasis for this grant was placed on oral hygiene and overall health benefits of water. We researched the oral health education programs offered in our school, availability of dentists and hygienists in the county as well as obesity rates for Lyon County. Drinking water has so many benefits that it is important educate and promote healthy habits that they will continue into adulthood. The water filling stations allow individuals to carry water with them and track how much water is consumed daily”. She also said the installation of the Delta Water Dispenser is scheduled to begin this summer. Central Lyon will continue to look for more grant opportunities in the future and if the opportunity presents itself, we will apply again.
