Mass Band Show

On Friday, October 15, during halftime of the CL-GLR football game, there was special entertainment! This was the show's 31st year of performance. The mass band show started when Central Lyon and George-Little Rock began playing football together. Band students from CL grades 6-12 and band students from G-LR grades 7-12 combine to perform what has become known as the Mass Band Show. This year involved about 160 students!  To prepare for the show, the different bands practiced separately. On the morning of the show, all of the bands had a rehearsal together from 8:00 to 10:30. Mr. Langholdt, CL band director, said his favorite part of the show is "seeing all of the different parts come together after we’ve been practicing separately, and then put everything together." He hoped that the students "learn how to work together to make great music and give a great performance when you put a lot of different parts together into  one big group."

Some of the band students shared what they liked most about the mass band show. CL junior Jaina Groen said "my favorite part about Mass Band is getting to hang out with people from another school."  Grant VanAartsen said "my favorite thing about the Mass Band Show is that I get to play my trumpet with my friends." "My favorite part of the Mass Band Show is when you play the school song with all the bands," said Junior Kadence Boender.

Another junior, Anna Warntjes, said "my favorite thing about the Mass Band show is seeing everyone come together and play pieces we all enjoy, and seeing all of our hard work and teamwork pull through to put on a great show." Anna's favorite memory from the Mass Band Show throughout the years is being the middle school drum major in 8th grade, and she was excited that she got to be the high school drum major again this year! She remembered those early mornings, freezing practices on the field the day of the show. They even brought hand warmers to practice.

Thank you for coming and supporting the bands of CL-GLR Friday night! We hope you enjoyed the show! Congratulations to the bands on a great performance!
