All State Music

Anna and Lilyann

Every October several students from area schools audition for All-State Music, which was held in LeMars, Iowa. This year Central Lyon had seven students who auditioned. Two students auditioned for band—Eliora Enriquez on saxophone and Gabrielle Rasmussen on trumpet. We also had five students who auditioned for choir—freshman Maggie Sides, juniors Lilyann Downward, Anna Van Aarsten, Anna Warntjes, and Matthew Langholdt.

Congratulations to Lilyann Downard who was recalled and to Matthew Langholdt, Anna Van Aartsen, and Anna Warntjes who were chosen to be in all-state choir. This is Anna Van Aarsten's third year, Anna Warntjes’ second year, and Matthew Langholdt's first year of qualifying. They will be part of the more than 1,000 students who travel to Iowa State in Ames, Iowa, every November to play in the band or orchestra, or to sing in the choir. This year’s 75th annual All-State Musical Festival will be held November 18-20, 2021.

Mrs. Langholdt had praise for every student who tried out, “For those who choose to travel the road to All-State auditions, my hat is off to all of you. It involves several months of hard work, challenging yourself in ways you never expected and having to sometimes experience bitter disappointment. Keep your head held high. The work you put into this is not in vain! Auditioning for All-State has taught all of you self-discipline, determination, poise, professionalism and so much more, and you have become a better musician and person because you had the courage to undertake this difficult process. Keep up the good work!”

Congratulations to all who were accepted into the Iowa All-State choir, band, and orchestra.
