Cancellations, announcements, emergencies

If school will be closed, starting late, or dismissing early due to inclement weather, an announcement will be broadcast on the following radio and TV stations:

KQAD radio - 101.1 FM|800 AM - Luverne
KIWA radio - 105.3 FM|1550 AM - Sheldon

In our effort to improve communication between parents and school, the Central Lyon Community School District is implementing a new announcement broadcast system that will enable school personnel to notify all households and parents by phone or text within minutes of an emergency or unplanned event that causes early dismissal, school cancellation or late start. The new service is provided through the school’s student information software company, JMC Inc.  This is the same on-line software that you may be using currently to access your student’s progress and report cards.

When a decision to start classes 2 hours late is announced, continue to monitor the radio/TV stations. The decision to cancel school will be made by 9:00 a.m. if weather/road conditions do not improve. In the event of an early dismissal, the radio/TV stations will be contacted at least one hour prior to the closing. If parent are ever concerned about the weather or road conditions, it is always their prerogative to keep their child at home. All we ask is that the parent call the school to inform us that the child will not be in school.

Please continue to monitor the TV and radio stations or the Central Lyon website at www.centrallyon.org for any updates or additional announcements

NOTE:  Many radio and TV stations not on our inclement weather list have subscribed to receive the Central Lyon messages and have chosen to announce the Central Lyon information when they receive it.
