“I’ve been a part of Individual Speech for all four years of high school. It has been a place where people encourage each other by watching performances, critiquing each other during practices, or giving a high five or a pat on the back after competition. Being a part of this family has been a joy and a major learning curve. When I started as a freshman, I was a newbie that didn’t completely know what I was getting myself into. Looking back on the past years has shown me the improvements I have made. It is a little easier to speak in public with emotion and strength, I’ve made new friends, and I’ve gotten to know a really awesome coach. Without this program I don’t think I would have made those connections or improved a lot at all. The family atmosphere has also been a lifeline I’ve needed to deal with high school and improve my pieces that I will be grateful for the rest of my life.”
