Changes in the HS Media Center
In 2020 Central Lyon High School hired a new media center associate. Her name is Mrs. Pulscher. She and her family have lived in Rock Rapids since 2015. Mrs. Pulscher's children, a daughter and three sons, attend school at Central Lyon.
Mrs. Pulscher chose this position because she was a full time stay at home mom. Now her fourth and youngest child is in kindergarten so when this job opportunity arose, she felt it was a great opportunity for the next stage of her life. When asked she said, "I want to invest in the school and the district my four children attend and be an active part within the school system. Since my degree is not in teaching, one way to do this was to work in the HS media center. This was a good fit as I have had past experience in a library position during graduate school. I also really enjoy working with high schoolers and other people. All these factors combined made it a great combination for wanting to work in the HS Media Center. I am thankful for the opportunity."
She looks forward to working with the students by assisting them with discovering books they both enjoy to read, as well as can use for research and furthering their education in their classes. Mrs. Pulscher also looks forward to being a part of the various clubs (Pep Club, Chess Club and Girls Book Club) that will be held in the HS Media Center during FLEX time and getting to work with the students in this capacity. She is excited to work with the staff and teachers, being able to assist them with books they need, or help with other materials for their classes. She strives to creative a positive and welcoming environment in the library through book displays, bulletin boards, and various events/contests/activities for holidays and special events, as well as keeping the HS Media Center neat, clean and organized.
Other changes in the high school media center are -
Throughout Homecoming week, the library will be having the following three activities:
- Books in a Jar contest
- A Giant Word search-specifically made with words from Central Lyon and this year’s Homecoming theme
- Find the “Ticket”- there will be 10 purple or yellow “tickets” placed in 10 random books throughout the library. Pick the book to check out and find one, you’re a winner!
Pep Club, Chess Club, and Girls Book Club will all be held through the high school media center. Another change is the social distancing being implemented at school for the students safety. Many furnishings were removed from the library and replaced by tables and chairs to allow the students to properly distance themselves.
Mrs. Pulscher 's impression of Central Lyon so far is a good one; she really enjoys being at Central Lyon! The staff and teachers have been very helpful and great to work with. The students have been respectful and courteous, and she has enjoyed getting to know them. Every day is a little different but there is also a consistent schedule, so there has been a nice mix of both in the daily routine. She knew going into this school year that there would be changes and some unknowns going into each day. She has appreciated how both the staff and students adjust and overall try to maintain a positive attitude, be flexible and open minded. She commented thtat everyone continues to strive to work hard and stay focused, making the best of things.
