The Giving Tree

I would like to share with you something this year called “The Giving Tree.”  Located on our classroom door, you will find a large tree.  Whenever I need an item for an activity in our classroom, I will write a request on an apple.  I will try to plan ahead and also write the date the item is needed to allow you plenty of time to purchase it.  If you choose to take an apple, when your child brings the item to school, he/she will get to put an apple on the basket with their name and the gift they gave.  Much like to the story, “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein, I believe this is an excellent way for the children to experience the joys of giving.  I would like to see this activity replace the teacher gifts that are given at holidays.  I feel this is a much more beneficial way for parents to give to benefit the entire class throughout the year.  I truly appreciate any and all acts of kindness and generosity. Thank you in advance.

Some of the things that our classroom could use are:

  1. 20 DVD plastic cases
  2. 20 DVD-R
  3. Scramble Squares (any design-can be found at Teacher's Helper in Sioux Falls)
  4. Spot It Game (found at Teacher's Helper in Sioux Falls)
  5. 20 individually wrapped bags of tea (need by 5-1-2012)
  6. Easter egg dye
  7. Playground ball
