Jazz Choir

Jazz Choir is an auditioned ensemble that began during the 2004-2005 school year. Students audition for jazz choir in the spring. Students must have the ability to sing well, sing their part independently, listen to themselves and others, and be facially expressive. Students must also be in good standing academically to be part of this elite group.
This ensemble performs at several concerts throughout the year, sings at the nursing homes, performs for community events in addition to their regular season competitions. Their regular season competitions consist of State Contest where jazz choirs do not compete against each other but earn a I, II, or III rating from a panel of judges, the Emmetsburg Extravaganza in March, a competition against other choirs in their class, and Vocal Jazz Championships a prestigious event where choirs must send in an audition video and be selected by a board of judges. The selected choirs from all over Iowa compete against one another in a final competition to determine the best in each class in Iowa.
