Field Trip to Lake Pahoja
On Tuesday, September 29th, the TK class went to Lake Pahoja to learn about mammals in Iowa. Emily, from the Lyon County Conservation office, taught the kids the 3 characteristics that determines whether an animal is a mammal or not. 1) Does it drink milk 2) Does it have a backbone 3) Does it have fur or hair. The kids got to feel the different pelts of animals found in Iowa and Emily shared fun facts about each one. Then the kids helped Emily mix plaster to pour in the molds of different animal tracks. While the molds dried, Emily took the kids on a scavenger hunt to see if the kids could find 1) homes of animals, 2) tracks of animals, 3) water that animals might drink from, and 4) food that animals might eat. We found dog, deer, and worm tracks!! Everyone ate lunch, played at the playground, and then we headed back to class! The kids were then able to paint their animal tracks at school on Thursday and take them home! I hope you enjoy the pictures from our field trip!
