Human Anatomy and Physiology
In HAP we learn anatomy (pieces and parts) and physiology (function). This class has a lot of terminology and memorization but is very helpful for any student who plans to go into any sort of health care, from doctor to sports training.
We will learn all the bones in the body, lots of muscles, and the function of several of the 11 organ systems in the human body. It is always fascinating to learn how all the parts work together to get the job done.
We now have an Anatomage table in the class room. It is a digital dissection table that is absolutely amazing. So far we have used it for showing the bones as we learn the skeletal system. The possibilities are endless, we can look at human bodies, animals, scans of many different types of problems, even mummies. We are able to move the table throughout the building so all teachers have the ability to use it in their room.
Second semester we will be touring the new cadaver lab at Dordt. Due to weather, we had to cancel our tour at Briar Cliff last year. Purely by chance we learned about the new lab in Sioux Center and were able to schedule a tour. It was a very good tour and now we plan to keep going there. It is nice and close and a state of the art facility.
