Did you know that the Environmental Science class has collected 6,458 pounds of recyclables to date this school year, and 2,039.5 during just the fourth quarter? The Environmental Science class took over the school's recycling program during the 2015-2016 school year. Under the guidance of Mrs. Ebel, they picked up all the recycling from each classroom twice a week and we were able to recycle 7067 pounds during the initial year; that is over 3.5 tons!
Last year they expanded the program to include items that are not included in the town's recycling program. Along with picking up paper, cardboard, and plastic bottles Mrs. Ebel secured a Lion Grant so that they could recycle some different materials as well. With the grant, she was able to purchase 5 Terrecycle boxes to collect specific items. They filled one box very quickly, the plastic bottle box, but others are taking longer. They are also able to collect your single use alkaline batteries, coffee pods, candy wrappers, and incandescent light bulbs. The boxes are purchases with postage paid so we are able to ship them back when full. We are hoping to fill all the remaining boxes by the end of the school year.
