Last year the Environmental Science class took over the schools recycling program. We picked up all the recycling from each classroom twice a week and we were able to recycle 7067 pounds, that is over 3 1/2 tons!
This year we have expanded the program to include items that are not included in the town's recycling program.
Along with picking up paper, cardboard, and plastic bottles I decided to try and get a Lion Grant so that we could recycle some different materials as well. With the grant, I was able to purchase 5 Terrecycle boxes to collect specific items. We filled one box very quickly, the plastic bottle box, but others are taking longer. We are able to collect your single use alkaline batteries, coffee pods, candy wrappers, and incandecent light bulbs. The boxes are purchases with postage paid so we are able to ship them back when full. We are hoping to fill all the remaining boxes by the end of the school year.
If you would like to send alkaline batteries to school to be recycled we would love to add them to the box.
