Central Lyon 6-8 Choir

Grade 6 General Choir

Sixth Grade choir meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We prepare music for three concerts during the year. Our fall concert is in November and our spring concert is in March. Our fine arts concert is held in Mary. We sing a variety of music including folk, classical, spirituals, and pop.

DRESS CODE FOR CONCERTS- Nice dress clothes.  No jeans or tennis shoes.  You do not need to spend money to get the appropriate clothing.  You may borrow from a friend or you may also visit any of the great consignment stores in Rock Valley or Sioux Falls.  I get a lot of low cost dress clothes for myself and my own children at these stores.

Grade 7 & 8 Mixed Choir

Mixed Choir is open to any student who wishes to participate and is willing to accept the responsibility of working in a group.  Mixed Choir meets twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 12:40 to approximately 1:20.  Literature for the mixed choir ranges from the classics to the contemporary with an emphasis throughout the year on introducing students to the basics of proper singing technique and learning to read choral music.

Dress Code:  White tops and black bottoms and black dress shoes, No jeans, tennis shoes, or shirts with writing.  If a girl has a black dress, or a black and white dress, that is fine.  If the girls wear dresses or skirts, please make sure they are an appropriate length.  Remember that students are elevated on the stage and the audience is looking up.  Girls may also wear leggings if they wear a dress, or long shirt that goes to mid-thigh length.  If there are questions on the dress code, please contact me.  Dressing up shows respect for yourself, the event and the audience.

Middle School Show Choir

Swing Choir is a small auditioned group that begins rehearsing in November. The music literature consists of pop and Broadway and other contemporary music which the students sing and dance to.

OPUS

Opus is a very select honor choir that students can choose to audition for.  Thousands of students from across the state of Iowa will audition for this prestigious honor choir.  From the beginning of the year through the middle of September, students will prepare music to use in a recorded audition.  The recording is sent in to the state music association.  If a student is selected for the honor choir, they will join hundreds of other students from across the state to rehearse together and give a fantastic concert at Iowa State in November.
