Students Building a Full-Scale House
For the past three years the shop class has built a tiny house. This year the shop class under the guidance of Mr. Engel is building a regular sized house to be sold. Junior Riley and the senior Eddie both prefer making this house instead of the tiny house. The jobs the students perform rotate every day so they can get more experience in different roles. Riley and Eddie recommend this class to anyone who wants to develop their woodworking skills and practice with hand tools. They will be finished with the house by the end of the 2020-2021 school year and will be working through the winter. When asked about the snow Riley said, “We’re just going to get shovels and some heaters and keep working.” The snow won’t be a problem for the house because as long as the house has a chance to dry, it won’t rot or mold.
They don’t know quite yet how much the house will cost. They currently are building on the tennis courts and a professional moving company will move the house on the buyer's lot. This article by the N'West Iowa Review will tell you more about the house and class. This link will take you to the December 3, 2019, KTIV story.
