Pahoja/Hatchet Field Trip

Students learn survival skills after reading the novel Hatchet

Beau M and Jullian D try to make a fire.

On Tuesday, February 18th, Central Lyon 6th graders traveled to Lake Pahoja Recreational Area to learn some winter survival skills.  The field trip was planned in conjunction with their Hatchet unit, which is a novel about a boy named Brian who ends up lost in the Canadian wilderness after a plane crash.  The students got to do several activities, including Ice Fishing, Hatchet throwing, Fire making, orienteering (compasses), and shelter building.  We had a great time and the weather was fair.  We want to thank Emily Ostrander and her crew of volunteers for giving us an amazing experience. Here are some pictures from our day.
