Welcome

Mrs. Baker

I’d like to take time to introduce myself and inform you of my role at Central Lyon.  My name is Stephanie Baker.  My husband Brad and I have three children enrolled in Central Lyon.  During my tenure at Central Lyon I have been fortunate with opportunities to teach students at various levels from kindergarten through eighth grade.  Each level and group of students is unique and rewarding.  Most recently I was a first-grade classroom teacher.

The district decided in the spring of 2018 that it was appropriate to add a new position within our Teacher Leadership opportunities.  This new position would be a TK – 5 Math and Technology Integrationist. I am proud to fill this position and excited to be able to assist the classroom teachers in these areas.

My role allows me to do two of my favorite things…work with students and assist colleagues.  My priority is the area of math.  My past experiences allow me to understand the busyness of day to day activities in the classroom.  I can help teachers with math resources along with building continuity in the subject of math from grade level to grade level, including working with middle school and high school math instructors.  I will be facilitating the FAST math assessments three times a year; a state assessment like the reading assessments students have done the past few years.  I will use the data from this assessment, other classroom assessments, and teacher input to address skills or areas of weakness among student math performance.  Ways in which to work towards strengthening math skills include myself working within the classrooms alongside teachers, working with small groups or individuals within a classroom, or working with students outside of the classroom.

My secondary role involves technology.  I find technology is something that is either feared or embraced.  I guess I have always embraced it and tried to find ways to use it in my classroom.  Being a Technology Integrationist, my goal is to help teachers embrace the use of technology in the classrooms by helping them use it ways to reinforce and build upon the learning happening in the classrooms.

I am very excited for the opportunity to build this position and anxious for potential benefits in student performance.   At Central Lyon we’ve had resources to help students develop a passion for reading.  This is an important life skill and I love to read as I find it very relaxing.  Now, Central Lyon also has a resource to help build mathematicians.  I hope I can help students find the ‘fun’ in math.

So, if your child comes home and says, “I worked with Mrs. Baker today.” or “Mrs. Baker was in my classroom.” please understand that I was either having fun with math or using technology with them in a positive, learning way.
