CL FFA Hosts Sub-Districts

Mr. Rockhill

Students practicing for floriculture project

Central Lyon has been competing in sub-districts for several years, but hosted the FFA Northwest Sub-Districts contest for the first time on February 24, 2022. The host school rotates from school to school in Lyon and Sioux counties every few years. The students range from high school freshmen to seniors from ten schools in the two counties. There are a range of different contests including ag broadcasting, ag sales, prepared public speaking, extemporaneous speaking, conduct of meetings, parliamentary procedure, chapter program, floriculture, ag mechanics, meats evaluation, nursery landscape, FFA Creed speaking, job interview, chapter quiz, and Greenhouse quiz. Central Lyon will have approximately 50 FFA members competing in the different contests this year. To move on to district events, the students must receive either first or second in their respective contests, which means 30 students of approximately 200 competing will move on. Judges are volunteers from people in the community and around Northwest Iowa.

The Central Lyon Community School District offers career and technical programs in the following areas of study: Business Education, Family & Consumer Sciences Education, Industrial Arts Education and Vocation Agriculture Education.
