122 Years
Four teachers are retiring at the end of the school year. They leave with a combined 122 years of teaching experience at Central Lyon. Deb Snyders spent most of her years teaching second grade and is known for her beautiful handwriting and juggling skills. Toby Lorenzen has taught physical education during most of his years, with a stint as elementary success coordinator and most recently as the strength and conditioning teacher. Many call him Coach as he was the very successful head football coach for several years and still coaches track. Amy Sieperda has worked in many areas of the school. Before serving as elementary art teacher, she taught middle school technology and fourth grade. Denise Snyders began as a business teacher and transitioned to working with high school students in the new alternative setting in 2014. She went full circle in her career as she began her career at an alternative school in Sioux Falls.
They all seem very ready to enter a new chapter in their lives. All look forward to spending more time with family, and one mentioned it was "just time to do something different." Others plan to travel, some plan to enjoy a next career, while others love the idea of no alarm clock and doing whatever they choose each day. The retirees are excited to hand off their students to some exciting, young, and capable newly hired teachers at Central Lyon. Our well wishes to all!
NOTE: Central Lyon offered to hold an open house to honor these retirees, but they declined.
