Functional Instruments Music Videos
Grades 3, 4, and 5 made functional sculptures in art class. The intentional function had to be that the sculpture could be used to make some sort of musical rhythm.
Each class had 2 class periods and as much time at home as they wanted to make their functional sculptures / instruments. After the sculptures were made, students had half of a class to work with quarter notes, eighth notes, half notes, and sixteenth notes. They put together their own rhythmic compositions and presentations, and then we recorded them. Below are the videos of what the students put together with their instruments.
