From Miss to Mrs.

Today we showered Miss Eben with all of our love as it was her last day of school before she gets married this weekend and comes back next week as Mrs. Weiler. We invited the entire grade to celebrate with us because Miss Eben has cared for and built relationships with many of the 2nd graders as the after school program director at Kids Club. We were extremely blessed with the support of many families who provided decorations, supplies, and gifts for her celebration. Miss Eben was VERY surprised when she walked in to our classroom this morning!

When the children arrived they were anxious to finally share our secret with her. They were also so excited to find out Oaklyn bear was joining us for the party too. They welcomed Oaklyn's Dad at the door warmly and asked to hug her right away. They were very happy to see Oaklyn bear again. A few of them also left some very precious notes on her desk. One girl even said, "I keep forgetting how to spell Oaklyn's name. Soon I'll always remember it." It was so sweet to hear them say her name and be mindful of including her bear in our pictures. Thank you, Remme family for allowing Oaklyn's legacy to shine through these kind classmates of hers.

To begin our bridal shower, Miss Eben opened her gifts and put on her Bride to Be sash and veil while "Here Comes the Bride" played in the background. We took a few pictures and then it was off to our individual classrooms to get started on all of the fun wedding activities for the morning. As you will see the pictures captured the memories best but here are a few highlights to explain some of them. Everyone made Miss Eben a hand print lily that we wrapped together with ribbon and a note that said "Handmade with love by the first class to call you Mrs. Weiler". She plans to use this bouquet at her rehearsal dinner tomorrow night. The boys designed their own tie to wear while the girls drew Miss Eben's wedding dress. There were lots and lots of giggles as the gentlemen got down on one knee and (ring) "popped" the big question..."WILL YOU...promise to always remember us as your favorite 2nd graders?" and Miss Eben said, "YES" to forever! Then the ladies from the 2nd grade Design Co. struck a pose with their diamond rings and best dress designs, while again, Miss Eben said, "YES" to the dress! We had a few more surprise visitors show up at the party that included her Mom and Dad, her sister, and a final guest, her future mother-in-law, who one of my students suggested now calling, "Mrs. Weiler, the first", since there will soon be two Mrs. Weilers at school. After morning recess, each class had three minutes to create a toilet paper dress for Miss Eben. We were treated to homemade mini-cupcakes beautifully decorated in her wedding colors. Students then worked in groups to make a playdough wedding cake and complete a few wedding cake math activities. We sent Miss Eben off with hugs and well wishes for a weekend filled with many more blessings and memories.
